What is the benefit of having a Second Medical Opinion?

With this value-added benefit, you can enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that if a complex or critical medical condition arises, you will have, at your fingertips, access to the best possible medical expertise in the world—and without the need to travel anywhere. When you are diagnosed with a complex or critical illness, or are simply not responding to a prescribed treatment, you can rely on:
  • The most up-to-date information on the specific medical condition or illness, and the treatment options available; both standard procedures as well as new cutting edge protocols
  • A personalized assessment of your case which results in the rendering of a specific medical opinion and advice on the most appropriate course of action available to you
  • Direct access to physicians and other professional medical experts highly specialized in treating the specific illness

What are the limitations?

There are no limitations on pre-existing conditions or the number of times a consultation may be requested—any new occurrence of any pre-existing condition may be submitted for evaluation.

There are NO limitations on:
  • The type of illness, provided it is of a complex, grave or critical nature
  • Pre-existing conditions; any new occurrence can be evaluated
  • The number of consultations on a given case or for the same member (provided that the case merits a re-evaluation)

How many documents/medical records can I upload?

You can upload up to 20 documents/medical records.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no file size limit.

What if I need to update my information or add additional medical records?

You can log in to the Assist America SMO Portal at any time with the login credentials that were emailed to you upon your initial request to update your personal information or add additional documents. The Assist America team will be notified that a change was made to your profile.

How will I receive my Second Medical Opinion?

A written opinion on the case will be provided to the you within five (5) working days of receipt of all required information.
